Since 1966
In 1966, a few ordinary people with extraordinary ideas got together in the British Legion Hall. They weren’t bankers, but they knew the power of community.
With a vision of financial independence, co-operation, and self-help, they laid the foundations of something special – Pennyburn Credit Union. On June 6th, 62 locals decided to take a chance and join the 20 founders. Little did they know, they were shaping something that would last generations – and the rest is history.
Our first ‘office’? A rented annex attached to a shoemaker’s shop at Collon,
thanks to Mr. Bertie Downey. Humble beginnings, but sat right in the heart of our community. Led by President Michael Canavan and a passionate Board of Directors, Pennyburn Credit Union started its journey – and it’s been growing ever since.
